When to Go
Spring is a great time to visit Austin.
Travelers can find plenty of activities from
March until May, including the South by
Southwest Music and Film Festival, the Texas
Hill Country Wine & Food Festival and the
Livestock Show & Rodeo.
Weather
Early spring is a fine time to visit Austin.
Not yet humid, March and April are dry and
mild. The Hill Country is in full bloom in
April, followed by rain in May. Summer gets
hot and humid in Austin, with occasional
summer storms. The Austin winter is mild and
snow is very rare. Fall is also temperate.
Transportation
Cars are not mandatory, but make traveling
Austin more convenient. Travelers interested in Austin's public
transit system can use the Capital Metropolitan
Transportation Authority. There are more
than fifty bus routes
and a variety of prices. For a
regular, 1-way ticket (adult fare), it's 50
cents. Exact change is
required for the bus.
Cost
Austin's prices don't typically fluctuate
with the seasons. It's pretty consistant
year-round. If you're planning on staying in
the heart of town, 6th St. you
might want to add to your travel budget.
Day Trips
Dallas: About 3 hours north
from Austin. Dallas is the home of the NFL Cowboys, Dallas
has many attractions and is worth the trip.
Houston is just 3 hrs. east. This big city
is loaded with things to see and do.
San
Antonio: Located about an hour southwest of
Austin, San Antonio is great for a weekend
getaway. Don't miss the RiverWalk and
other San Antonio sights.
