ATLANTA TRAVELERS INFO.
Best
Times to Visit
Spring and fall are ideal times to visit
Atlanta. The weather is mild in the spring
and the blooming flowers are beautiful that
time of year. Fall is bustling, as many of
the area colleges are welcoming their
students after a long break.
Atlantas Climate
Atlanta's weather is mild for much of the
year, although July and August tend to be
hot and humid. Occasionally, Atlanta sees
some snow during December and January, but
never enough to warrant chains on the tires.
Transportation
MARTA, (Atlantas rail system) is a reliable
and inexpensive way to get around town. Try
the bus if you need to reach parts of town
not served by the rail system. Those trying to hail a cab
on the street may find themselves
standing for a while. It's best to order the
cab by phone. And, driving in Atlanta can be
a nightmare. The traffic is congested and
the streets can be confusing to tourists.
InSeason
Costs
No one season in Atlanta is more expensive
than another. For the most part, prices
remain steady. Not among the U.S's pricies
towns, Atlanta nevertheless has some bigcity
characteristics, which can come with a hefty
price tag. For instance, downtown hotels may
be pricier than those on the outskirts and
in Midtown. Downtown restaurants can be
pricier, depending on where you stay and
what you do while visiting. Take in a
baseball game. You can get good tickets at
reasonable prices.
Day
Trips
Atlanta is surrounded by interesting
communities such as Stone Mountain and
Norcross to the east & Marietta to the north west
Stone Mountain is home to the Stone Mtn.
Park, famous for its ninety-foot replicas of the Confederacy
leaders carved out of the side of the
mountain. There are numerous lakes around
the park, in addition to a skylift that
extends to the top of the peak.
Savannah is about 2 hours outside of
Atlanta. This quaint and historic city has more than 1,000 restored
Federal and Regency buildings downtown
alone. Travelers often stay in bed and
breakfasts when visiting this city, famous
for its tree-lined streets and quiet,
Southern ambiance.
